We’ve noticed that local People’s Vote advocates have criticised Cheltenham Labour for not publicising a petition demanding that Alex Chalk MP asks for a People’s Vote. This is not completely accurate, but it is true that this is not our agreed position at the moment, and this is the explanation:
The Labour Party position decided at the Conference, after very long debate trying to reconcile many views within the Party, is here.
We feel that the strategy outlined there still makes good sense. The second referendum or ’People’s Vote’ is not ruled out, if a General Election is not possible to get. However, right now, the Parliamentary Vote on Theresa May’s deal is the focus. ‘No Deal’ is also unacceptable.
This has been discussed several times in the local party, and for members who disagree the best strategy is to come along and persuade us!
