We need a General Election as soon as possible. And we need a Party in power whose first priority will be to find a way forward that is capable of bringing the country together and resolving this Tory catastrophe. Joanna Hughes, Chair, Cheltenham CLP

The UK Parliament has just told the people of this country what all of us knew already more than a month ago – that they refuse by a shattering majority to back Theresa May’s botched EU Withdrawal deal.

Ministers have today indicated that the Prime Minister will push on with her failed proposal into the final weeks before March 29. But it must now be clear to all who are watching that she is out of ideas and out of time.

‘The Government has failed to deliver on its main legislative responsibility for this parliament’ Cheltenham Labour Chair Joanna Hughes points out. ‘Meanwhile, all other government business is at a virtual standstill, with legislation in all areas affecting peoples’ lives pushed back to the sidelines.

‘Britain is now effectively without a functioning government. Labour urges MPs to take the first opportunity to vote down May’s failed administration.

‘We need a General Election as soon as possible,’ Joanna stresses. ‘And we need a Party in power whose first priority will be to find a way forward that is capable of bringing the country together and resolving this Tory catastrophe.’
