Cheltenham Labour Party Christmas Foodbank Appeal 2020

A great big thank you to our members and all the people who volunteered and donated! We’re delighted to be able to tell you that our Christmas appeal was a great success.

Within a few weeks in early December, just over 650 items of food and Christmas gifts and treats were collected through six collection points organised by Cheltenham Labour party members across Cheltenham, and delivered to either Open Door or Cheltenham Food Bank at Elim Church.

This was our first project of this kind for some time, and we were really pleased that the simple system we set up worked well, maximising impact while minimising the effort needed from any one volunteer.

Through their efforts we were delighted to be able to contribute to the outstanding efforts of Open Door and the Foodbank in supporting those whose needs are amongst the most significant in Cheltenham during these difficult times. All the items were packed up in either Labour Party carrier bags, or in bags with labels our specially designed for the project, that said on one side: ‘These items were donated by members of Cheltenham Labour Party’, and on the other side: ‘We will work with you and others in 2021 to ensure a #HungerFreeFuture.’
What next? Sadly, the needs of the families and individuals facing difficulties are unlikely to get any less as the pandemic continues, with the likelihood that job and housing insecurity may even get more severe over the coming months. So, we’ve already made a public commitment to carry on with this project, and we’ll be in touch with members shortly to outline our plans for the coming year. If you have ideas and suggestions to make, please get in touch!
With thanks again, and wishing you all a safe and healthy 2021,
Julie Farmer, Women’s Officer
