The 2024 Cheltenham Borough Council elections will be held on Thursday 2nd May 2024.

All 40 members of Cheltenham Borough Council (two for each of the twenty wards in the Borough) will be elected following boundary changes effected by The Cheltenham (Electoral Changes) Order 2023 made on 18th July 2023.

About the Borough Council

The Borough Council consists of 40 elected members and is chaired by the Mayor.It is responsible for setting the budget and policy framework within which decisions are made

Most day-to-day decisions are made by the Council Cabinet which consists of the Leader of the Council and eight Councillors appointed by the Leader.

The current political makeup of the Council is:

  • 31 Liberal Democrats
  • 5 Conservatives
  • 2 People Against Bureaucracy
  • 2 Green

This gives the Liberal Democrat group an overall majority of 21 on the Borough Council.
